WORKSHOPS
Workshops are available for librarians, teachers, and students (elementary school through college). Analysis of selected stories will enable librarians and teachers to focus on techniques enhancing their presentations and lesson plans. Students will be shown how dance, music, poetry and storytelling relate to their own creative use of language and learning as a whole. Elementary and Middle School children will become aquainted with a variety of instruments, informed of their histories and provided with examples of their use; suggestions for visual arts projects may also be included. High School and college workshops will center on interdisciplinary approaches to learning. Various functions of music, language and dance as they relate to history and social studies will be introduced as appropriate to grade levels. These workshops also provide theory and/or practical performance studies. Continuing education classes for adults in music (woodwinds and percussion) dance (swing, modern, hip-hop, traditional West African) and creative writing (poetry and storytelling) are also available.
